1) Housing decisions must be restored to city residents.
Opinion by A Native Southern Californian. (The opinion of the author may or may not reflect the opinion of all those at MBStrong).
In the name of “equity,” the objective of the CA Democrat Party housing laws is to force demographic changes in the make-up of our unique CA cities.
Force is the key word.
The CA Legislature and the Governor’s office is controlled by the Democrat Party. I want to believe that my CA Democrat friends have no idea that the people they elected are destroying our beautiful and unique CA cities with their policies, and I hope after reading this, they will not vote for Democrats in the future.
Over the course of many years, Democrat lawmakers have passed a variety of housing laws that are literally killing everything unique about our city cultures, and they have done so with iron clad control.
They have mandated cities to provide low income housing and they have given cities a quota they must meet.
They also gave cities a chart categorizing “low-income” into a variety of descending income brackets, the lowest bracket is “no income,” representing the homeless. This is Governor Newsom’s solution to the homeless problem he created when he declared CA a sanctuary state for the homeless across the country.
Cities have to provide housing for each low income bracket and regularly submit reports to the State identifying properties in their city that would satisfy the requirement. Once properties are identified, cities get the word out to builders interested in investing in such projects. If a city is late on submitting compliance reports to the State, hefty fines are imposed and the State can take direct control of approving projects.
The Democrats have also passed housing laws that give developers incentives to build properties that would include low-income units. These incentives are intended to override any restrictions in local city zoning and planning ordinances, striping control from the residents of deciding what they want to build in their city. If a city government interferes with the builder’s plans, the builder can take the city to court and sue for violation of State laws.
Legislatures also passed laws allowing a property owner with a single home to build a back house and turn their property into a duplex, or tear down the existing home and build a 4 unit apartment. These sets of housing laws also override local zoning, so a neighborhood once zoned for single homes, can now turn into a haven for apartment bldgs.
State mandates, quotas and penalties tie the hands of the city planning departments and ensure cities will not impede builders. Councilmembers actually find they are incentivized to work with builders to encourage them to offer low-income and no-income units in their property developments so the city can meet its State quotas.
So what if City Councilmembers feel emboldened to stand up to Sacramento, David standing up to Goliath, trying to protect their city ordinances? Sacramento thought of that and established a strong-arm bureaucracy, Department of Housing and Community Development, to squeeze cities with penalties and lawsuits, financially draining and forcing them to buckle into submission.
The State also granted itself the authority to take over issuing local building permits, something they will do if a city has the hutzpah to challenge the housing laws. A bureaucrat in Sacramento, miles away, can issue a permit for a building to be developed in YOUR city! Outrageous! It’s a total crapshoot as to what will be built.
Instilling gender and race “equity” policies for housing in cities will be next, whether its for a rental or a purchase property. Democrats have established “diversity, equity and inclusion” (DEI) committees or departments in almost every area of our lives: in the work place, in our schools, in the medical profession and even in the military.
Nearly every CA city government has a DEI dept. to oversee city hiring practices, policing activity, and anything else where they can unilaterally push gender and race “equity” policies. It’s just a matter of time until they establish city housing quotas for gender and race in the name of “equity.”
These housing laws are erasing the uniqueness of our CA cities.
In LA alone, we have cultures from the entire world represented in various cities and neighborhoods. Restaurants, retail, clothing, festivals and gatherings are immersed in our unique neighborhoods: Korea Town, Japan Town, Little Ethiopia, Olivera Street, China Town, and Little India just to name a few.
Then there are the Jewish deli’s in mid-Wilshire, and soul food restaurants in Watts. The opulent architecture in Beverly Hills and glitzy shops on Rodeo Drive. West Hollywood’s culture is centralized around the gay community and their night scene, and Hollywood proper has people working in the film industry, an entirely unique culture unto itself.
Malibu to Redondo Beach are beach cultures populated with people who’s lifestyle is immersed in surfing and beach volleyball. Palos Verdes has a large equestrian cultural community. And down in Orange County, we have the largest Vietnamese community outside of Vietnam called Little Saigon.
Californians live in these cities, not because they want to be “exclusive” or they are “prejudice” against others, but because that is where they feel most comfortable. They are with their like-cultured peeps, and good for them! They pay their taxes and they are proud of their city.
I grew up on the beaches of LA and I love my beach life-style, but as a Californian, I also love going to each of these cities to experience new restaurants, festivals and to visit friends. And they come to my city for the same. A NATURAL embrace of American diverse cultures.
Democrat State housing policies are forcing cities to lose what took years to build. Developers can build almost any housing project they want, where they want, and the residents of that city have no say in it. The Sacramento lawmakers have stripped residents of all control and are destroying CA cities in the process.
This is wrong. It’s boot on the neck politics. It is not freedom.
Control over city housing decisions must be restored to the residents.
Stop voting for Democrats.

3) The Dept. of Energy reports COVID-19 most likely originated in a Chinese lab.
On Monday, Feb 27, 2023, TUCKER CARLSON interviewed a Chinese virologist who testified that COVID-19 was developed in a Chinese lab and intentionally released on the world by the Chinese Communist Party. His first interview with Dr. Yan was in 2020 when she stated the same but the mainstream media called her testimony conspiracy theories and they tried to discredit her. Why would they attack her rather than investigate her testimony?
There has been a reversal in the messaging from some in the mainstream media because recently a classified intelligence report from the Department of Energy reportedly found the virus most likely did originate in a Chinese lab.

Questions about the relationship between the Chinese COVID lab and our government, Dr. Fauci and the pharmaceutical companies still need answering.
