ANNOUNCEMENT FROM COUNCIL 9/6/22
“PLEASE NOTE, THIS MESSAGE IS BEING PROVIDED TO THE PUBLIC ON TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2022, REGARDING AGENDA ITEM NO. 2 - DUE TO THE SIGNIFICANT PUBLIC INTEREST IN THIS PROJECT, THE MAYOR HAS REMOVED THE ITEM REGARDING THE HIROSE FROM TONIGHT'S AGENDA, TO ADDRESS RESIDENTS' CONCERNS AND QUESTIONS, AND CONSIDER LEGAL OPTIONS.” - MB City Council See link to the Council announcement [HERE].
Congratulations MB Residents! You vested your time and interest by participating in your city government which gave our community a “win for now” on HighRose!
Hundreds of you emailed Council over the last several weeks to justly oppose HighRose for a variety of sound reasons. However, it appeared that the volume of letters had not persuaded Council to pause when they included a “Resolution” on the 9/6/22 Agenda to say “yes” to the project and doubled down with an official “Statement” that the city only had the right to do a limited (“ministerial”) review of the plans.
Some residents got to work and presented legal arguments to Council in letters that appear to have brought about a cause for a pause. Our community owes a debt of gratitude to those residents with a legal mind who wrote persuasive letters to Council, some of which we published in our Newsletters including the Two Retired Guys, Proponent to use the Law, and Chill the Build group. (See their letters [HERE] and [HERE]. They all invested lots of research time and money to persuade Mayor Steve Napolitano and City Attorney Quinn Barrow to use the law to protect our city.
We thank these and all residents for speaking up, and we thank Council for listening and taking a pause to “CONSIDER LEGAL OPTIONS” to protect Manhattan Beach.
