MB Residents Speak...about our schools and candidates.

WE GET EMAILS FROM RESIDENTS:
Why is Jason Boxer still on the School Board?
Why has the School Board not asked Jason Boxer to step down for the multiple inappropriate posts about children and sex, and antisemitism on his MBUSD Instagram account? What kind of leadership is this? And Jen Fenton wants us to re-elect her? JS 10/25/22
“Jason Boxer's posts reveal a problem with our School Board, placing the responsibility on the voters to decide what they want from an MBUSD education. As we see it, there are 2 voting options.” ~MBStrong 10/6/22 See our Voter Guide below.

Leadership Gaps in our MB School Board
The most egregious gaps in the MB school district Board leadership are:
Financial accountability and misplaced funding priorities. Rather than focusing on academic excellence and the basic skills to form independent thinking, the school district board has emphasized an “Equity Roadmap.” Has the Equity Roadmap been systematically evaluated in our school district, or anywhere for that matter? Recently, the superintendent opted for disciplinary action for the youth involved in racist behavior. It was much more directive and cost-effective than an overly complicated bureaucratic structure.
Lack of financial acumen. What about the Measure A Parcel Tax initiative that was on the ballot in June? The Measure A proponents (including current candidates, Jen Fenton and Wysh Weinstein) proposed a triple hike in our parcel taxes. The community became aware of the dearth of budget details associated with all that cash and voted to defeat the measure by a 70% to 30% margin. For the residents who opposed Measure A, consider finishing the job by voting in the fiscally conservative and competent Trifecta: Christy Barnes, Johnny Uriostegui, and Mike Welsh.
Failure to address parent and community concerns. These include mismanagement of the pandemic in terms of masking mandates, remote classes, reduced enrollment, declining test scores, prioritizing the Equity Roadmap rather than focusing on academic excellence, and questions about the curriculum in terms of gender fluidity and the sexualization of children.
Other than that, things appear to be on track.
Sincerely,
Pamela Davidson, Ph.D. - MB Resident for 28 Years
Parents think Student Surveys at MBUSD cross the line into their personal lives.
The following was sent to us by a parent of a student at Mira Costa. Parents have complained to the School Board for months about personal surveys which are automatically administered to the students unless a parent opts-out. Many parents think they should not be administered unless a parent specifically chooses to opt-in. We thought our readers would like to read the questions in the 2 surveys (3 min. read).
Below is an excerpt from a letter emailed to parents by the Vice Principal:
“These two links show all survey questions:
