MB School Board wants to begin LGBTQ gender development teacher training.
Approval for funds scheduled at Board meeting on July 13.
At the upcoming MBUSD School Board meeting on Weds, July 13, the Board is scheduled to approve hiring a consultant for $8,400 to train teachers and staff on LGBTQ+ gender development.
This is being paid for by the EEBG (Educator Effectiveness Block Grant) which is state money earmarked for adding Gender Theory doctrine to CA public schools.
To receive the grant, MBUSD must submit annual reports to the California Department of Education (CDE) and include the number of teachers and staff that received professional LGBTQ development training along with other data. See grant details [HERE].
Question: What other data is the CDE collecting on our teachers and staff?
These funds provided by the state are restricted to specific teacher training programs, such as:
“Practices to create a positive school climate, including, but not limited to, restorative justice, training around implicit bias, providing positive behavioral support, multitiered systems of support, transforming a schoolsite’’s culture to one that values diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and preventing discrimination, harassment, bullying, and intimidation based on actual or perceived characteristics, including disability, gender, gender identity, gender expression, language, nationality, race or ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.” Read more [HERE].
The MBUSD consulting contract with Vincent Pompei, Ed. D. for professional LGBTQ development services is for the 2022-2023 school year.
Questions: Will this be a regular training program given every year? Is it required of all teachers and staff? Can they opt-out?
Excerpt from the MBUSD Agenda:
“The training will be specifically designed for MBUSD, connecting to our district data, policies, mission/vision, EDSJI (Action) plan, and the specific audience. The sessions are designed to support staff in deepening their understanding of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression and in gaining an understanding of California laws and (MBUSD) district policies as they pertain to LGBTQ+ inclusion. Participants will practice applying new knowledge by responding to common scenarios using research-based practices that comply with our legal obligations and district policies.”
Questions: Specifically, what “policies” is the Board referencing? Who is the “specific audience” referenced above? Which California laws and “legal obligations” is the Board referencing?
Question: Specifically describe how this teacher training will be applied to my child in elementary, middle, and high school, respectively.
If the funds are approved, training will begin 8/11/22. See full Agenda description [HERE].
