Why Our School Board Election Has Become So Important.
School Board elections have typically gone without a lot of fanfare, but not this year. Across the country, people are waking up to the fact that School Boards should work for families and residents in the community who support the schools with their property taxes.
Conflicts over contested teaching material, masks, school lockdowns, and School Board members labeling parents who question new policies as “dissenters” have voters looking more closely at candidates who want to be entrusted with the education of our MB children.
How the district is spending our tax dollars and MBEF donations is also a concern this year. Measure “A” called for an injection of a new parcel tax to increase school funding that was nearly 3 times our current tax, and although it was defeated 70% to 30% in June, it raised a lot of questions about budgets and transparency.
And an explanation for the loss of over 700 students in the district last year is still looming as well as a plan to reverse course.
Learn more about the candidates by attending Forums and meeting them at their outings around town.
